(28) The truth in love.

Prayer and fasting are good, but better than either is almsgiving accompanied by righteousness. A little with righteousness is better than abundance with wickedness. It is better to give alms than to store up gold; for almsgiving saves one from death and expiates every sin. Those who regularly give alms shall enjoy a full life; (Tob 12:8-9)

The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit; he has ceased to be wise and to do good. (Ps 36:3)

You love evil more than good, falsehood more than speaking what is right. (Ps 52:3)

For the LORD gives wisdom, from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he has counsel in store for the upright, he is the shield of those who walk honestly, Guarding the paths of justice, protecting the way of his pious ones. Then you will understand rectitude and justice, honesty, every good path; (Prov 2:6-9)

Entrust your works to the LORD, and your plans will succeed. (Prov 16:3)

He who pursues justice and kindness will find life and honor. (Prov 21:21)

Wash yourselves clean! Put away your misdeeds from before my eyes; cease doing evil; learn to do good. Make justice your aim: redress the wronged, hear the orphan’s plea, defend the widow. (Is 1:16-17)

Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, (love) is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing. (1 Cor 13:4-8)

Be merciful, just as (also) your Father is merciful. (Luke 6:36)

But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without inconstancy or insincerity. (James 3:17)

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matt 5:10)
