(40) Righteous man has compassion.

As the LORD lives, the man who has done this merits death! He shall restore the ewe lamb fourfold because he has done this and has had no pity. (2 Sam 12:5-6)

Reproach has broken my heart and I am so sick. And I looked for sympathy, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none. (Ps 69:20)

The light of the just shines gaily, but the lamp of the wicked goes out. (Prov 13:9)

Compassionate and merciful is the LORD; he forgives sins, he saves in time of trouble. (Sir 2:11)

Thus says the LORD of hosts:) Render true judgment, and show kindness and compassion toward each other. Do not oppress the widow or the orphan, the alien or the poor; do not plot evil against one another in your hearts. (Zech 7:9-10)

Indeed we call blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of the perseverance of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, because «the Lord is compassionate and merciful.» (James 5:11)

Finally, all of you, be of one mind, sympathetic, loving toward one another, compassionate, humble. Do not return evil for evil, or insult for insult; but, on the contrary, a blessing, because to this you were called, that you might inherit a blessing. (1 Pet 3:8-9)

All bitterness, fury, anger, shouting, and reviling must be removed from you, along with all malice. (And) be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ. (Eph 3:31-32)

If there is any encouragement in Christ, any solace in love, any participation in the Spirit, any compassion and mercy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, with the same love, united in heart, thinking one thing. Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves, each looking out not for his own interests, but (also) everyone for those of others. (Phil 2:1-4)
