(92) The humility of a good man.

You have been told, O man, what is good, and what the LORD requires of you: Only to do right and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God. (Mic 6, 8)

«A good tree does not bear rotten fruit, nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. For people do not pick figs from thornbushes, nor do they gather grapes from brambles. A good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good, but an evil person out of a store of evil produces evil; for from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks. (Luke 6:43-45)

«Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your selves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.» (Matt 11:28-30)

Likewise, you younger members, be subject to the presbyters. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for: «God opposes the proud but bestows favor on the humble.» So humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you. (1 Pet 5:5-7)

But he bestows a greater grace; therefore, it says: «God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.» So submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you of two minds. Begin to lament, to mourn, to weep. Let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy into dejection. Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you. (James 4:6-10)

Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves, (Phil 2:3)

No man is built up by wickedness, but the root of the just will never be disturbed. (Prov 12:3)

Anything deceitful the just man hates, but the wicked brings shame and disgrace. (Prov 13:5)
